When Seconds Count
Helping first responders get to us as quickly as possible
Our Mission
To engage the Knoxville City Council, neighborhood leaders, and first responders with the goal of helping fire trucks and ambulances get to calls in traffic-calmed areas with all due speed and efficiency. The Knoxville Fire Department responds to dozens of calls each day, risking life and limb to keep citizens safe -- but too often, simple things like careless parking and legislative gaps prevent KFD from getting to these calls as quickly as they can.We aim to help clear as many of these obstacles as possible, in a cost-effective and responsible manner.
The Problem
Innovations like the access grooves cut into speed cushions for first responder vehicles to use are rendered ineffective without clear parking guidelines.

The Solution
The city, working together with neighborhoods and first responders, can craft cost-effective parking ordinance upgrades to better help citizens prevent these obstructions from occurring.
The Plan
* Engage the Neighborhood Advisory Council through the Office of Neighborhood Empowerment to solicit feedback, advice and concerns from neighborhood leaders (Current phase)
* Engage the Knoxville Fire Department to assess and determine current and future operational needs with regard to the effects traffic calming and parking issues have
* Engage the Knoxville City Council, if necessary, to create updated parking/traffic ordnances in support of neighborhood and first responder needs
